  • Purpose

    Manage fire threat and NH3 flammability within the Hazard Zone.

  • Strategy

    Mitigate all fire threat and prepare to stop fire and ammonia releases quickly.

  • References

  • Command

    Plant IC to coordinate with the on-scene supervisor and Lead Responder. Prepare a CAN report for the Command Team and in-coming fire responders.

  • Safety

    Set isolation zone at 500’ when NH3 vapor exceeds 10,000 ppm or when when free burning fire is not contained.

  • Definitions:

  • Incipient: fire is in the beginning stage and controllable with portable fire extinguishers or small hose systems without the need for protective clothing or breathing apparatus.

  • RECEO: Rescue, Exposure, Containment/Control, Extinguishment, Overhaul.

  • Rollover: is a stage where fire gases in an enclosed area ignite. ... rollover may proceed flashover where the entire room and contents ignite.

  • Backdraft: is an air-driven event, e.g. broken window, into an enclosed area with a hot smoldering fire that suddenly ignites as a smoke explosion.
