  • Purpose

Reduce heat into the system and high-side pressure.

  • Strategy

Manage high-side pressure for a high-side leak to reduce the impact of the release.

  • References

    All-Hazards Response Guide pages 13-16.

  • Command

Lead Responder oversees the high-side containment and control plan.

  • Safety

Trained operators, SOP to reduce in-coming heat and high pressure, and IDLH escape PPE.

  • Definitions:

  • Confine a release: Reduce the impact of the release so that IDLH conditions will not extend beyond a defined Isolation Zone.

  • Contain a release: Keep the release contained, preferably within a building, so that the Isolation Zone poses no life and environmental threat while control measures are being engaged.

  • Control a release: Stop the threats of an ammonia emergency by reducing pressure, re-directing, and/or isolating the ammonia release to a receiver where it can remain safely within the system.
